I don't watch shows like Hell's Kitchen or Kitchen Confidential, because I think chefs are overrated. They're nothing more than cooks in white aprons.
Yesterday, I attempted to eat lunch at a restaurant that is very popular. (Hint: Fat Bastard made a reference to it.) Anyway, I ordered a steak and wait nearly half an hour. When I got my entree, the steak was bleeding worse than Sonny Corleone on the turnpike. Disgusted, I sent it back and told the waitress I wasn't hungry. We paid for our drinks and left the waitress a tip that was less than two dollars. It was about 25% gratuity, but the waitress suffered because a cook didn't do his or her job well.
We went to eat at another restaurant, where the food and service was better. Here we gave the waitress a tip that was about four dollars. It was a 20% gratuity.
Here's the rub. The waitress at the first restaurant, which was busier, did more work than the waitress at the second restaurant, which was virtually empty. We were more or less, the waitresses only customers. So, maybe Mr. Pink was right.
A cook does a good job and the waitor gets the compliment. A cook does a bad job and the waitor pays for it.
Something is not right with this.
